After almost a decade’s work on FFM, the original project has now closed. However, various resulting enterprises have already commenced.
Two intersecting books have been authored on the relationship of Soviet literature to contemporary Russian popular music––especially with regard to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Together they explain the tension between conservatism and extremism with are now so common in the national’s popular culture. Equal attention is paid to mainstream and avant-garde production. An additional monograph is underway, documenting the origins of the recording industry in Russia––and how the problems thereof remain systemic, more than a century later. Completion expected mid- to late 2023.
